Los Carpinteros July to December 2006

The Cuban artists collective Los Carpinteros, is composed of Marco Castillo Valdés and Dagoberto Rodríguez Sánchez, they live and work in Havana.

Los Carpinteros create large scale installations, mixing design, architecture, sculpture and drawing. Although they resemble architectural constructions, their objects remain identifiable by their forms and materials, however, their functions and usual uses are totally diverted, often with humour and poetry.

At the Atelier Calder, Los Carpinteros have produced numerous watercolours as well as two installations presented as part of the Estuaire 2007 event, Cama (a monumental, circular bed) at the Escal'Atlantic, and the second work Home Pool, exhibited at the Grand Café de Saint-Nazaire. This piece completes the series of pools begun in 2000.

Their work has been exhibited notably in 2006 at the Chicago Cultural Center, in 2005 at the Venice Biennale, in 2004 at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana in 2003, at the Shanghai Biennale in 2002, at the PS1 Art Center in New York in 2001, they participated in the 7th Havana Biennale in 2000.
