Los Carpinteros  July to December 2006

The partnership of Cuban artists, Marco Castillo Valdes and Dagoberto Rodriguez Sanchez, lives and works in Havana.

Los Carpinteros produce large dimension works and installations, combining design, sculpture, and drawing. If the work resembles and relates as almost architectural constructions, their sculptures remain identifiable by their forms and materials.

While identifiable, however, their functions and normal utilization are entirely changed and diverted, often with humor and poetry.

At the Atelier Calder, Los Carpinteros have produced a number of watercolors as well as two sculptures presented in the larger setting of the exhibition "Estuaire 2007".

Cama (a monumental and circular bed) at l'Escal'Atlantic, and the second work Homepool, exhibited at the Grand Café of Saint Nazaire.

This work completes the series of swimming pools begun in 2000.

Their work has been exhibited notably in 2006 at the Cultural Center of Chicago, in 2005 at the Venice Bienniale, in 2004 at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Guggenheim in New York, at the National Fine Arts Museum of Havana in 2003, the Shanghai Biennial in 2002, and PS 1 Art Center, New York in 2001. They also participated in the 7th Havana Biennial in 2002.
