About
Established in 1989 in Calder’s studio and home at Saché in the Loire Valley, Atelier Calder is among the oldest residency programs of its kind in France. International artists are invited to live and work on the property, receiving a living stipend as well as technical and financial support to realize artistic projects that might otherwise prove daunting. Designed by Calder and completed in 1963, the studio embodies a simple and functional aesthetic, blending seamlessly into the surrounding natural environment.
Since its inception, Atelier Calder has hosted over seventy international artists. A Board of Directors, led by Laurent Le Bon, President of the Musée National d’Art Moderne, Centre Pompidou, oversees the residency program and the artist selection process. The Board is comprised of Calder Foundation representatives, art historians, curators, and members of DRAC Centre-Val de Loire, Région Centre-Val de Loire, and Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap). Atelier Calder receives financial support from DRAC Centre-Val de Loire, Région Centre-Val de Loire, and the Calder Foundation.
