Mimi Park

About the Artist
Mimi Park was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1996 and lives and works in Brooklyn.
Mimi Park’s work brings together natural materials (dust, seeds, soil, plants, etc.) and manufactured or mechanical elements, giving rise to kinetic sculptural installations that are often fragile and constantly evolving. Park explores the relationships between construction and decomposition, life and decay, matter and memory. Her works highlight the circulation and perpetual transformation of matter while questioning value, care, and what it means to “hold” or “keep” in a world where everything is ephemeral. She frequently incorporates electromechanical devices, sensors, and small animated sculptures—the Coplees—that respond to light, movement, or the presence of viewers. This vitality, whether real or suggested, is paired with a deliberately embraced fragility: breakdowns, pauses, gradual dissolution, and alterations are integral to the work. Park regards these transformations as metaphors for living systems, ways of making visible the invisible—dust, flows, residues, energy, memory—and of reconsidering the value of ordinary things.
During her residency at Atelier Calder, Mimi Park will create a large-scale installation built from materials carefully gathered in the surroundings of Saché, to be shown as part of the AR(t]CHIPEL Festival in October 2026. Through close observation of the site’s phenology, she will incorporate the landscape’s seasonal transformations into the work. The physical and symbolic passage between New York and Saché will inform this process, with the collected materials becoming witnesses to specific ecosystems and to newly formed relationships with the territory.
