About the Artist
Bill Jenkins was born in Grass Valley, California, in 1981 and lives and works in New York.
Bill Jenkins’s large-scale installations explore light as both a material and an architectural force. Using simple, readily available materials such as tarpaulins, timber, and Mylar film, Jenkins creates immersive environments that capture, redirect, and shape the movement of light through space. His approach echoes the principles of Land Art by working with the inherent qualities of a site, treating space and light as natural resources to be activated. Inspired by the scale and forms of urban infrastructure—including tunnels, pipelines, and drainage systems—his installations transform architectural environments into expansive, perceptually charged experiences.
During his residency at Atelier Calder, Jenkins developed an installation that fully engaged with the architecture of the studio while simultaneously veiling it from view. Enveloping the space in translucent materials, he transformed the building into an environment defined by light, transparency, and fluidity, creating an installation that balanced monumental scale with a striking sense of visual delicacy.
