Laurent Saksik
November 2001—May 2002About the Artist
Laurent Saksik was born in Paris in 1962, where he lives and works.
In his work, Laurent Saksik explores the relationship between light and the perception of color. He uses a wide range of materials—glass, plastic, resins, aluminum, and others—selected for their ability to reflect, transmit, or absorb natural and artificial light. Research is central to his practice. Before producing his final works, he makes photographs, digital images, and models to test and develop his ideas.
Several of the works Saksik produced in Saché were presented in the solo exhibition Premières divisions at the Château d’Azay-le-Rideau in the summer of 2001. Couleurs — Écrans and Timbre (2001), for example, emerged from his experiments with color. Their appearance changes according to external conditions, particularly daylight and atmospheric conditions, making each work dependent on facts that are constantly shifting and impossible to predict.
