About the Artist

Marc Fornes was born in Toulouse in 1975 and lives and works in New York.

Trained as an architect, Marc Fornes developed an experimental practice from the beginning of his career, using digital design programs that position his work at the intersection of architecture, design, and sculpture. In the early 2000s, he founded THEVERYMANY in New York, a studio dedicated to research and production that seeks to push the structural limits of architecture with lightweight materials and easily assembled components developed through computational design and digital fabrication processes. Known as “structural stripes,” they form a system that combines structure and surface, allowing the creation of complex, self-supporting curvilinear forms with organic qualities.

During his residency at Atelier Calder, Fornes created a sculpture that visitors entered like a room. DAW/Double Agent White (2012) reflected several key aspects of his practice. It offered visitors a unique spatial experience while emerging from a computational design process generating new structural possibilities.
