About the Artist

Marin Kasimir was born in Munich in 1957 and lives and works in Brussels.

Since the early 1980s, Marin Kasimir’s practice has explored the perception and construction of space through painting, sculpture, installation, and, most prominently, panoramic photography. Using a rotating panoramic camera, Kasimir creates images that expand the field of vision beyond that of the human eye, drawing on references to painting, cinema, and architecture. His works investigate perspective, reflection, and anamorphosis, recomposing urban landscapes into layered, often disorienting panoramas that blur the boundaries between documentation and fiction. Through these expanded viewpoints, Kasimir examines the social, political, and cultural dimensions of public space.

During his residency at Atelier Calder, Kasimir continued his exploration of spatial perception by creating panoramic works that brought together multiple places, moments, and realities within a single image. Situated between photography and cinema, these compositions reimagined familiar environments through compressed and expanded perspectives. It was also during his residency that he developed his first sculptures/reliefs, using the profiles of faces and bodies to extend his investigation of space from the photographic image into three-dimensional form.
