About the Artist

Veit Stratmann was born in Bochum, Germany, in 1960 and lives and works in Paris.

Veit Stratmann’s practice explores how we use and experience space. His works are closely connected to the places where they are installed, responding to the specific characteristics of each site. Through their scale, restrained forms and colors, choice of materials, and placement in transitional spaces, they can resemble improbable pieces of street furniture. In this way, Stratmann’s works encourage viewers to become more aware of their surroundings, questioning both their habitual ways of seeing and their understanding of space.

During his time at Atelier Calder, Stratmann developed a new series of objects and incorporated them into 3D images. The residency allowed him to explore the space and volume of the studio as part of his broader theoretical and artistic research.
